On-Site Oxygen-Fed Ozone for Industrial Plastic Recycling

Forever Plast has chosen an on-site oxygen-fed ozone generation solution to optimize the washing and decontamination of its recycled plastics.

The plant, located in Italy, specializes in recycling post-consumer detergent and soap bottles, mainly made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS). The bottles are washed and then shredded so they can be reused in the manufacture of new finished products.

In this type of application, plastics are heavily contaminated with residues of detergents, surfactants, and odorous compounds. To improve the quality of washing and process water treatment, Forever Plast has integrated a ProMinent OZLa040 ozone generator, capable of producing up to 1.5 kg/h of ozone at a concentration of 10%. Ozone is mainly used to oxidize detergent residues in the washing water, contributing to better decontamination of plastic flakes.

The ozone generator requires a supply of pure oxygen at a rate of 10.5 Nm³/h. To meet this requirement, Novair supplied a complete on-site oxygen generation system, including an OS 32 oxygen generator (OxySwing 32), perfectly sized for the application. This solution provides Forever Plast with a fully autonomous ozone generation chain, without relying on deliveries of liquid or bottled oxygen.

By combining ProMinent's ozone technology with Novair's on-site oxygen generation, Forever Plast is improving the efficiency of its recycling process, optimizing wash water management, and enhancing the quality of its recycled plastics, while reducing its logistical constraints and environmental impact.
